The Guilsfield Singers at St Myllin’s Church, Llanfyllin.

The Guilsfield Singers gave a superb Christmas Concert at St Myllin’s Church in Llanfyllin on Saturday 8th December. This was the first of an annual series of concerts being organised by the Friends of St Myllin’s Church in order to raise money for the maintenance of the fabric of the church and to increase the amount of events taking place in St Myllin’s Church.

The Guilsfield Singers, under the baton of Paul Wardell and accompanied by Philip Harrett, gave a much-praised performance with a high-point being the soprano soloist Sarah Garrett. The programme of Christmas music and readings proved very popular with the audience.

Cllr Simon Baynes, Trustee of the Friends of St Myllin’s Church and Mayor of Llanfyllin, said:

“We are very grateful to the Guilsfield Singers for getting our concert series at St Myllin’s Church off to such a good start. I would like to thank the Rev’d Hermione Morris for making the church available to us and Keith Blacker (Trustee of the Friends of St Myllin’s) for organising the event. We are also indebted to the other Trustees and supporters for attending and providing a delicious post-concert supper for the choir.”

Keith Blacker, Trustee of the Friends of St Myllin’s Church, said:

“The concert exceeded our expectations and the quality of the Guilsfield Singers’ music and singing was excellent. Concert plans at St Myllin’s for next year are well advanced: on Saturday 6th April we have the Friends Anniversary Coffee Morning with music from Llanfyllin High School pupils to mark one year since the Friends organisation was started. Then on St Myllin’s Day on Saturday 15th June there will be a concert in the evening given by the Penybontfawr Male Voice Choir.”
